Mortar is the weak link, and it fails first

A brick chimney is only as strong as the mortar holding it together. Mortar is softer than brick by design, so it takes the wear, and after decades of Texas sun, rain and freeze-thaw, the joints erode, crack and wash out.

Tuckpointing is the fix: we grind out the failed mortar to a consistent depth and pack in fresh, color-matched mortar. It restores both the structural bond and the weather seal. When the brick itself has cracked or spalled, or a section is leaning, that calls for a partial rebuild instead.

Either way, the damage almost always starts with water getting in from a failed crown, cap or flashing, so we fix the source, not just the symptom.

Failing masonry only gets more expensive

The Chimney Safety Institute of America names water penetration the leading cause of chimney damage, and eroded mortar is how it accelerates: open joints let in more water, which freezes, expands and washes out more mortar every winter. Left alone, a chimney that needed simple repointing becomes a leaning, unstable structure that has to be rebuilt from the roofline up. Repointing early and waterproofing after is a fraction of that cost.
